DIY Lavender and Rosemary Candles

Cost: $4-5 / Candle

Equipment

  • Double Broiler
  • skewer or chopstick
  • clothespins
  • mason jars or containers

Materials

  • 4 cups soy flakes
  • wicks
  • Lavender Essential Oil 15 drops per candle
  • Rosemary Essential Oil 15 drops per candle
  • 1 tsp dried lavender
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary

Instructions

  • You can use a double broiler, but I used a pot of water and then a glass bowl that i set in the water as it was boiling.Add soy flakes to glass bowl, and stir until they turn to liquid.
  • Place the ends of the wicks (metal part) into the wax and then press to middle of bottom of jar. Let dry, this acts as an adhesive
  • Once the wax has dried, take a closepin and pin it to the middle of the jar, letting the ends of the clothespin rest on each side.
  • Pour the wax into the jar
  • Pour 15 drops of each oil into the wax, (don't add it in your wax on the stove, because it will burn)
  • Gently stir the oils into the wax, as to not upset the wick itself
  • Pour 1 TSP of dry lavender and rosemary into mixture, and stir gently
  • Wrap the jars in a washcloth and let set for 24 hours. The washcloth protects it from cooling too fast, and prevents the glass from cracking. This is rare, but does happen.
