Our Best Ever M&M Sugar Cookies are a family favorite, and the first cookie my kids ask for! They are absolutely delicious, soft and chewy!
I am so in love with learning and adapting cookie recipes to find the perfect one, and this is one of my favorites! This combines two of my favorite recipes, one of which was my grandmas! I love the addition of cream cheese, because it makes the cookies super soft!

Chill the Dough
First and foremost, chilling the dough improves texture and makes your cookies look better, but it also concentrates their flavor! They wont spread as much and even brown better in the ben! I chill my dough for 30 minutes for most of my cookie recipes!
Bake with Consistency
If your cookies are the same size and shape, they will cook more evenly! My tip for portioning dough is a scoop!
Bake one batch at a time
Baking your cookies one batch at at time in the center of the oven helps improve even cooking but also you can make any needed adjustments for the following batches. If you are going to use the same cookie tray for the next batch, make sure to cool that before using it again as well!
Cool on the cookie sheet first
I almost always cool cookies on a baking sheet for about 5 minutes before I transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. They still cook when they are on a baking sheet out of the oven as the baking sheet is still warm, so if you try to move them before hand they may break apart or not cook completely!
Best Ever M&M Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flower
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 oz cream cheese
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1 large egg
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 6 tbsp melted butter warm
- 1 tbsp milk

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350. Line 2 Cookie Sheets with parchment paper
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt
- In another bowl, put 1 1/2 cups of the sugar and cream cheese in a bowl. Don't combine yet. Put the rest of the 1/3 cup sugar for rolling in a pie plate/bowl and set aside.
- Pour the warm butter over the cream cheese mixture and stir. Mixture will be slightly lumpy. Stir in the oil, then the egg, milk and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
- Using a spatula, stir the dry ingredients into the wet. When they are slightly mixed, add some m&ms into the mix, leaving some for later to top on the cookies.
- Roll cookies into 1 1/2 inch balls. then roll bowls in sugar on the pie pan. Put on a pan two inches apart and put 2-3 m&ms on top of each one.
- Bake cookies, 1 tray at a time, for about 10-12 minutes. Transfer them to a wire rack to let cookies cool. I usually let the cookies cool on the tray for 5 minutes and then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
